if textbox id is txtValue, then this is what you should use:-

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function readValue()
{
var val = $('#txtValue').val();
alert(val);//this will output your textbox value in a message box...
}
</script>

Hi leezac

In general Java is used on the server and can't see what is happening in the browser (on the client).
Oh Is It??

I though he was talking about javascript....
I thought the big "JAVA" in capital letters was a clue....

Big chance he is talking about JS tho. Otherwise he's trying to work out how to handle the http request on the server.
