What fun can I have with the "All Messages" console?

I am not sure why I saw that file for the first time today, but it looks very useful.  I am a former Windows user and developer looking to learn about this platform, and am even writing an iPhone app at the moment.

So what kinds of great things can I do with it since I imagine it could keep me out of trouble if I know what to look for...

Thanks.

I think so. It has a mode where it says "All Messages". But I just realized that's when I have the All Messages list item selected in the left window pane.
Sounds like you have opened /applications/utilities/console.app

It is a log file viewer.
Console Application is a useful diagnostic application .. loads the contents of all LOG files on OSX and makes it easier for you to find out what is going on on your system.
When things go wrong .. it may help you work out what the problem was.

Another useful tool is Activity Monitor which is similar to Task Manager in Windows.

Disk Utility does not look very complex but it is recommended to run it periodically to repair any incorrectly set permissions and it can also repair damaged filesystems.
