Applying Security on files level

Hi All,
We need to apply security on files and share them between our branch offices. We need to control who can print/edit those files.
Is there any alternative solution to Windows RMS that can offer the above?
Appreciate your help!
Thanks -

Ntfs file permissions will do all but restrict printing. To restrict printing you need some form of DRM, Adobe Acrobat does this. Otherwise it is assumed that if you can read a file then you can print that file.

the files are office files (doc/xls/ppt).  I think some sort of encryption must be used to prevent usage of those files on machines outside the corporate LAN. Also, in RMS you can allow read and disable print.
Any other idea?
Then you need a digital rights management solution.

Normally NTFS file permissions are fine, if you don't trust the user then don't give them access to the file.
Thanks ve3ofa for your reply. Can you advise about good digital rights management solution tools?
We trust the users but we need them to only read the files without being able to copy/move or print them. We were able to provide this using SharePoint and RMS but we are searching for a more simple solution.
Thanks again!
