prevent Outlook from caching the shared mailbox by default

I'm about to create a shared mailbox that will be available for all users (up to 100 users)

I want to prevent Outlook from caching the shared mailbox.  In Exchange 2010 SP1 and Outlook 2010 the shared mailbox is automatically added to all intended users in Outlook.  This will keep us from having to add the mailbox to every user one at the time.

I know we can  go to Tools - Account Settings,  E-mail tab,  properties for the Exchange account, more Settings,  Advanced tab, unchecking the box beside "Download shared folders".

This will prevent Outlook from caching the shared mailbox.

But we can't do this for every user.  That's why I wonder if it can be unchecked by default ?

Check out   Specifically, you can set the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Cached Mode\DownloadSharedFolders (DWORD) = 0.  This could be done via a REG file, login script, GPO, etc.


Is there a specific reason as to why Microsoft changed the caching behavior in Exchange 2010?
