Annoying message comes up saying:

Adobe Reader Updater has not been able to check for updates recently.
Check online to see if solutions are available from the Adobe website.

Even if we check the "Do not show this message again" it pos up again

Have you tried turning off Adobe Updates?  That can be done and is different than Do not show this message again.

Adobe 8 is out of support and had a very short life span because Adobe issued V9 to take care of all the problems.

So turn off updates and that should solve the problem.

Try opening up the reader..... go into Edit --> Options

Goto the bottom option Updater and then disable it from there..

See if this stops those messages from popping up.

Also, go here:

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/

And you can download the version you have (download the full V8.1.2) and reinstall it if you need to.

msconfig disable adobe update service (can also be done in services). Just another way of doing it.
