CRM report server connection error

Hi All,

I am in desperate and urgent need to resolve the current CRM installation issue we are facing. I am in the process of adding a new (additional) orgainisation to our current CRM 4.0 (enterprise). However for some reason the CRM installer is unable to connect to the remote report (SQL) server. (The SQL server that our CRM connects to is sitting on a seperate server within our LAN). when I enter in the the following URL on the SQL (report server) http://file-server/Reports, the reporting service correctly loads, however if I do the same on the server then the page fails to load.

I have attached a couple of screenshots below.

As mentioned I am in urgent need of assistance from the CRM experts on this one and any advise anyone has is greatly appreciated.

Did you check the URL for the reporting services server on the existing organization? is it the same? or are you using a different reporting services server?

What error do you get if you try the URL on the CRM server in internet explorer?

Could there be a firewall issue between the 2 servers?

Did you check the URL for the reporting services server on the existing organization? is it the same? or are you using a different reporting services server? Not sure what you mean here, I am installing the new orgaininsation as part of the same existing CRM deployment. I am using the the default URL http://server-name/reports and as I mentioned this works fine on the SQL server, but not the CRM server.

What error do you get if you try the URL on the CRM server in internet explorer?"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" I have attached a screen shot of this below.

Could there be a firewall issue between the 2 servers? no, communication between the servers is unrestricted.

In my first question, I meant if you look at the properties of the first organisation (do reports run for this organization?) in deployment manager, what URL is shown for the reporting server? I thought it would be helpful to see if you are using the same URL as before.

The page cannot be displayed error suggests that either the namefile-server in http://file-server/reports cannot be resolved (DNS issue?).

Hi Feridun,

the deployment manager appears very bare, however when navigating to the current orgainisation properties I noticed there was a URL fot the Microsoft Dynamics CRM SRS Data Connector: http://crm server/ReportServer/ and when I enter this URL into a browser on the CRM server I receive an error Reporting Services Error

That suggests you have Reporting services installed on the CRM server? Is that right?

After reporting services is installed it does need to be initialized. There is, if I remember correctly, a link called reporting services configuration, in the reporting services program folder. You should check that out and also confirm which server's reporting services you should use.

Thanks Feridun I will look into this now, Someone else handled the initial deployment of our CRM so I am gradually working how it has been installed. Could you please advise where I would find reporting services program folder.

Thanks

You should find it under Start | All Programs

OK,

Now I am really confused when went into the 'Reporting Services Configuration Manager on the CRM server' I can successful login and start the services. Going through all the tabs in left side pane the config appears to be OK, untill I get down to Scale-out deployment, Listed there is the SQL server and status is joined. Beaneath that our CRM server is listed and status is waiting to join. When i attempt to 'Add Server' I receive the error message below.

Any ideas, or should I urgently post this in a SQL forum.

Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.WMIProviderException: The feature: "Scale-out deployment" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsOperationNotSupported)

Hmm, it does sound as if the installaton is a little messed up and reporting services is installed on two servers.

Scale out requires an Enterprise Edition of SQL Server. I don't know too much about it.

Is it feasible for you to remove reporting services from the CRM server and just use the one on the SQL server?

Hi Feridun,

Thanks for your response and apologies for my very late response I have been on vacation until recently.

I am now back and have and am revisiting this issue, I make reference to comments your last post "Is it feasible for you to remove reporting services from the CRM server and just use the one on the SQL server?"

I am prepared to give this a go as a process of trial and error I guess, do you have any advise and tips on how I would go about removing the reporting services from the CRM server?

Also for what its worth, when I enter the reporting services URL of the SQL server into a web browser on the CRM server I receive a timeout error.
