Guess you have already 2005 on your server, you can best measure if the server has room for that extra capacity (memory, cpu, io).

See that certainly the memory is configured that each instance get a fair share and that also some is left for the server itself.

Yes. you can very well create/install different versions on the same machine. However, the recommendation is to install the older version of SQL server first and then the newer one.

That will help take care of any shared dlls getting overwritten by an older version of the same while installing an older version.
