Is this doable in Flex/AIR - pointers?

I want to create a desktop app / dashboard - i guess it would be similar to tweetdeck.
I'm going to use the sqlite backend - but basically whenever there is an update - i want a little pop up to notify the user (if the app is running) ...

thanks.

The only thing I can think of is to ping the server to get the latest version number of the app to see if there is an update or not cuz I don't think you can just push from the server unless you have steady connection.

So, create a server side script that spits the latest version number out of the database, have your app ping that script whenever the app boots up or every given interval to check against the current build you have installed.

This sure is rudiment way of doing it, but it worked fine for me.

hey just re-reading your comment, and i've been googling.

surely there must be a way for some kind of push to go through to the air app?
assume i have a php form that does the edit / update on the database, at that point i can send out something somehow and have the air app listen for that - rather than having to poll to check if there's any new info on the database.

That's very interesting link.  Good find.  :)
Not that I have any knowledge in that class but it sounds like that's going to do the job for your case.
