terminal services printing issue
Hello,
I have a newly installed Windows 2008 R2 server and have the terminal server and remoteapp roles added.
When a user connects via MSTSC they get the desktop of the server and under devices and printers they can see their local printers with (redirected) showing afterwards.
We have been told to use RemoteApp to deliver a particular program so have added this app to remoteapp. The default policies are in place and there are no restrictions in any of the settings that we can see limiting printer access. Yet when a user connects to use this app via RemoteApp they have no printers (redirected) showing up.
So if the user uses MSTSC and connects to the server and runs only the app via MSTSC or manually via the dektop icon then the printers work fine. Yet when they use the RemoteApp icon the software works fine but no printers redirected for some reason. Any ideas?
Thanks

Remoteapp doens't redirect printers as it's as if the app was running on the server and not the user's desktop. Try installing the printers on the server itself (logged on as a local user) and confirm they are available in the Remoteapp settings.

Yes this works and they can see the printers on the server itself, the problem is they need their local printers redirected to bring across printer settings. We have a number of copier printers with mailboxes. So when you add a printer to your PC you need to configure the mailbox storage settings so that when a user prints to the printer it goes into their mailbox and doesn't come straight off the machine. How would we achieve that goal or are we asking too much from Microsoft? If so would Citrix meet this requirement?
remoteapp's should redirect printers. Certainly does this when presented via UAG. I will have a check from the RDSGateway today and let you know if there are any issues

Thanks to both of you for your input so far. I assumed RemoteApp was a slightly better way to present TS apps than the old MSTSC system so would expect redirection to work especially given there are the tickboxes to limit printers and local drives in the remoteapp settings.

Clients are Vista, updating to version RDC7 fixed the issue. Many Thanks, knew it would be something silly like that.
