The server was working fine all of last week and no one disjoined it from the domain or removed it’s computer account.

What could cause a server to lose its account on the domain?  To get it back to working all I did was re-register the computer on the domain.

Try in this way:

Right click on Computer icon and select Properties
Click on Name Tab, click "Change..." select Domain field and delele domain extension (eg: domain.com you delete .com) and click ok
Inser credential and restart pc.

If this not work, in Active Directory User and Computer, select server name object , right click and select Reset Computer Account.
Next reinsert pc to the domain.

ASKER

That is basically what I did which did solve the problem what I'm asking is what on earth caused the problem?
Hi.

Maybe the del-key? Sometimes even admins use it unintentionally ;)
You should setup auditing to enable you to search for computer account deletions. Maybe 2008 server DC has it setup by default already, have a look at the security event log and search for the server name.
