Get booted out of internet
When doing a google search for "propaganda anaylsis worksheet, I get kicked off the internet when opening the document. However, if I chose to save the doucment I can do that. Why do we get the boot?
"kicked off the internet" is a fairly ambiguous remark. What exactly is happening and what device are you using to surf? (device = machine, OS, type of internet service)
Most likely there's an issue with the browser plugin for the document's extension and it crashes your browser.
Try either updating the core software (i.e. Adobe Acrobat Reader if the file is PDF) or using another browser that might handle that file extension natively.

there is a dialogue box asking if I want to open or save the document. Cannot open it.

What happens when you save the doc?
Getting booted can have many different meanings.. as I try to explain to my users. tell me exactly what happens. Which like in your case, it sounds as thought Internet Explorer is closing unexpectedly when you attempt to Open said document. If that's the case then what Lizzy suggests is solid.
