replace act6.0 database
need to replace current act 6.0 data base with different data base
ASKER
I need to to know to do it and what to watch for etc
I'm not sure what you need to know?
Are you trying to replace ACT! with another product or replace one ACT! 6 database with another?
If the latter ... is the database on a LAN, set up for sync, linked with email?

replace one act data base with a later one
this was the main computer with one computer connected to it
The customer had a huge av problem and we could never get it to work properly after cleaning it
so I used another drive that I had copied the os and files to 8 months back
I have a current backup up from the act program
just would like to replace the old data with the current data

Just replace all the files in the database folder ... backup first
An ACT! 6.0 database consists of at least 14 files with the same filename, but different extensions.
Do not try to just replace one of them.... the links will mess up the data
BTW: You say you couldn't get it working properly ... have you thought about having the database repaired so you don't lose the 8 months?
If they stay with ACT! 6.0 you should also look at getting ACTPAK to run automated backups and maintenance: http://www.glcomputing.com.au/main/17/2

thanks for the info
there wa no problem with act it was xp that was corrupted
the act merge repair instructions are lengthy and replacing the old database with the new one I hoped was simpler

Yes, it is simpler ... it really depends on the value of 8 months of data entry
ASKER
I'm not losing it it's all included in the data I backed up from the current computer
I thought you were using a database from 8 months ago?
Maybe if you ex0plain with a bit more detail, I can tell you what you need to do

Oh ... so you've restored an 8-month old system and want to replace the database with the one off the damaged system?
