Cooltype.dll crashes photoshop CS5.5

Hi Experts,

I'm having an issue where my Photoshop is crashing constantly. I un-installed and re-installed but the problem persists. A look at the event viewer shows this:

Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version:, time stamp: 0x4d90cf71
Faulting module name: CoolType.dll, version:, time stamp: 0x4d077bce
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00024cba
Faulting process id: 0x1bc0
Faulting application start time: 0x01cd2d23e8706910
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1\Photoshop.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1\CoolType.dll
Report Id: 2b7d0414-9917-11e1-a286-70f395068aef

I've used some tools to repair my registry, but this didn't resolve the issue. Does anybody have a possible fix for this issue, it's driving me bonkers and really hindering my work.

Thanks millions in advance.

The Cooltype.dll is part of Adobe Acrobat and Reader. The first step I would take is to install all updates for each of these (Acrobat, Reader, and even PS5.5) that you have installed. If that does not fix the problem, you may have a bad or incompatible font that is causing problem.

There are some font checking tools, but first do the updates and then if you continue to have problems, let me know and we can walk through some other steps to see if we can get this fixed for you.
