SEO after Panda update

Hi,

I have some questions after the Panda update.

1) What is the number of internal/external links to text ratio should I have on a page for SEO (since the Panda update)? Is this ratio number different for internal and external links over text?
2) Are there some good tools to allow me to find out the percentage of links to text on a page?
3) If I wish to keep those links but not get "penalized" for having too many internal/external links then do I simply use rel="noindex nofollow" for the links or just rel="noindex" or just rel="nofollow"?
4) One of my clients has a lot of original content (that was published on other article directories from a long time ago) but the content is also on their site. I want the search engines to recognize the content is original from their site only. How can I do this? The content is distributed already so I don't think I can find all the content out there.
5) I'm wondering if there is a tool that will allow one to see any duplicate content that I would have on my client's site from other pages and from within (internally)?

Thanks,
Victor

Hi Tiggerito,

5)
i) Does google penalize for the duplicate content that occurs when creating subdomains. I have a post here:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27716280/301-redirect-htaccess-not-working.html

and I'm trying to redirect to use the subdomain only.

ii) Do you know where the duplicte content errors will appear in the Google Webmaster Tools. I'm looking at the crawl errors but don't see any duplicate content errors?

iii) I do see around 160 errors (404 not found) but they are from links that are pointing to the articles on http://www.ultratrust.com. Apparently, a lot of these errors occured the last couple months. I don't know why. I know I didn't post these links anywhere but perhaps the owner hired someone else (and didn't tell me). I never try and take "short cuts" with SEO. The content that is on there are quality content articles.

iv) I can't access the screaming frog site (I guess they are down or server is busy).

1) the site did get hit so I'm trying to find out what happened. Nothing spammy that I personally know of. I did notice that the crawl errors are because of 404 errors due to linkbacks from obscure sites (just in the last couple of months). I don't hire other people to get linkbacks but the owner may have. Don't know till I ask him.

Owner said he didn't hire anyone for backlinks...yet. Makes me a little wary though. I told him just to write good press releases (for good, reputable backlinks).

About april 14th. I guess about that time. I'm revisiting the page though.

Here is the lynx version:

of a typical page.

Do you know if googelbot will crawl dynamic content like via ajax? Some content isnt' really useful on the site to be crawled I think.

I made some basic layout changes like it used to be a 2 column site and now it's a three column site but that was back in around Dec 2011/Jan 2012. Same content though. I did add in a nav bar which maybe one of the causes. I was thinking of making them no follow tags or just use ajax calls on it so it's not crawlable (if googlebot thinks I"m using too many internal links). I moved the newsletter sign up from the left to the right column. But overall it's the same content. I think the only major think was the nav bar (but it's clean). It seems like there have been a number of backlinks from sites (that I have no control over). Spammy sites. I'm going to clean up what I can and then ask google to reconsider the site. It's still ranked but it was hit for no apparent reason (on my part any way).

No penalty notice. Just a drop in ranking/traffic. The only thing I changed in Dec 11/Jan 12 was the nav bar, layout and made some more internal links to other pages. But I'm going to change it so the the nav bar is below the main content, reduce the number of internal links, change the left col links so it's more specific to the content (whereas right now it's just a more general left col links to other articles). I'll try a reconsideration and I'm praying they give me feedback to make any correction I need to do on th site.

Any suggestions?
Keep us informed about your reconsideration request.

It does sound like it relates to a change in Googles algo. It's still early days with Panda and there is nothing more than speculation out there on what it did and how to recover.
Okay, I'll post the reconsideration on this post later. The owner wants me to focus on some other project right now; hence, the delay in response. But will post in the near future so perhaps we can all learn something from the Panda. I know we used to post to article directories like ezinearticles and I read that the links from them are negligible now so maybe that's it. I haven't done a posting to an article directory in a very long time though and focusing more on social media. I've been telling the owner to get out press releases as it's a sure thing (if the pr is good - that is). So we're doing another press releases and will continue to do more. Anyways, will let you know soon. Would love to get other people's feedback on for good SEO. I only advocate the white hat stuff and long term goals for SEO.
