PowerVM - AIX LPAR Snapshot with memory snapshot?
Hi,
I'm having a VIOS (LPAR) that I'd like to fully backup before installing some packages in it. I'd like to be 100% sure that I can restore it to the actual state (including memory processes - just like in vmware esx - the memory snapshot option).
Is that possible?
A BIG THANK YOU!

Right. It includes the whole rootvg plus a bootloader (if tape/DVD), but not memory/paging.
Recovering a machine by means of mksysb implies booting from this image and a complete restore of rootvg.

So if I'm having some other VGs it won't include them?
mksysb is for rootvg exclusively.
There is a similar command "savevg" for non-rootvgs (and rootvg. but see below!)
It works nearly the same way, but will not create bootable media.

Thank you for your effort. I believe mksysb doesn't include the memory of the OS in the snapshot, isn't it?
