upgrading Vista Home Premium SP2 to Windows 7 ??

I would like to upgrade a Vista Home Premium w/SP2 32 bit System to Windows 7 whatever.  I have DVD with Window 7 Professional Full version 32 bit w/SP1.

I want to perserve existing Programs, Files, Data & Settings.

The DVD says it included Windows Anytime Upgrade [whatever that means]

When I loaded the DVD it said it could not upgrade but could do a custom install [clearing all programs, files, data, etc.]

I have DVD with VISTA Ultimate [both 32 & 64 bit versions]

How can I accomplish my goal?

Thanks for your help

Vista Home (Basic or Premium) can't upgrade to 7 Pro. You can go to 7 Ultimate or 7 Home, but not from Home to Professional. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7?T1=tab02 has a matrix of acceptable upgrade paths.

You might be able to work it by upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate and then Windows 7 Pro, though.

You can buy Win7 and do an in-place upgrade to Win7 Home Premium - you cant go from Vista Home Premium to Win7 Pro without a complete re-install - in which case you may as well go for the 64bit version.

is there a special reason why you want to upgrade?
imo - Vista SP2 works as well...

Yes,  The VISTA Home Premium had problems. I was getting black screen and I found the fix to be turning off UAC.  So I want to get to a system where UAC works properly.

then an upgrade is not the best solution
better repair vista first :

No problems running System File Checker - no integrity violations

ran Repair Vista -  No problems reported.
