user getting disconnected at 6PM

Where is the user?
How are they connected?
Is this from ANY computer or just the one?
Have you tried other users from the same device at that time?

Do you have backups running?  That would use a lot of resources and possibly cause no response to come from the server...

You may want to look at the event log as well as see if anything is occuring around that time.

All other users can log in after 6. The user can log in after 6 on another machine. Nothing has been changed on the server and the user has had an account for four years.

If it is only happening to the user on one machine, it probably isn't a server issue.  Rather, a local pc issue...

Have to check event log to see what may be occuring around that time on the machine.  Do they get any kind of error/nic disconnect message?

Silly as it sounds......

I once had a user that had exactly the same problem. At a certain point in the day he could no longer connect to the network until the following morning, everything was fine again then for the whole day.

UNTIL....

The man sat next to him went on holliday! The user could now not log in at all the next day...

It transpired that the user NEXT to him used to switch all the sockets next to HIM off of a night when he went home at 5 (6 in your case) AND on of the extension leads he turned off had a small 5 port switch on the end of it under his desk.... My user was plugged into that switch.


Might not be your solution but you can see that sometimes you have to think about "What happens at 5 (6pm) everyday" and think EVERYTHING.

What is the error that the user receives when he tries to logon?

There is no error, she just cant access network resources after 6. She can access the internet still.
