go to, click on free java download and select linux (if you are running x64 then select linux x64).

It will prompt to open or save the file.  Select save.   Open a terminal window and type...

cd /opt
sudo tar zxf ~/Downloads/jre-7u4-linux-i586.tar.gz

If you downloaded the x64 version, the file name will be jre-7u4-linux-x64.tar.gz

then type...

mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins
cd ~/.mozilla/plugins
ln -s /opt/jre1.7.0_04/lib/amd64/

then open firefox and go to about:plugins
I just tried on my system and the site works (will be prompted to run the applet)

I had to change ln -s /opt/jre1.7.0_04/lib/amd64/
to ln -s /opt/jre1.7.0_04/lib/i386/
That worked. Thanks.
