IBM DS5020 storage expand

Hi all,

I have one IBM DS5020 storage, all the slots are full, and we have big array configured with raid10
we wanted to add some more disk space into the existing RAID10
i have some questions :

1) i need to buy an EXP520 expansion unit to connect to the DS5020, do i have to rebuild the existing RAID10 or not ? i dont want to, because it is in use with all the data on it.
2) if the answer to the above question is NO, how do i do it without reformating the data ?

thanks!

depends if you just want to create a new array or expend the old array if you expanding the old array you need to use the correct ammount of disks

been looking but cannot find a good link so you may need to back it up first is that possible ?
It's certainly possible to expand the current aray, DS5000 is LSI Engenio based (now owned by Netapp). Some rules about about adding enclosures live and other rules about adding disks and waiting several minutes in between each addition though, will try to find the manual.

Are you prepared to power down to add the enclosure? That's certainly easier then adding one live.

Storage

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.
