Blocking websites using GPO - IE8 and IE9 domain

I have blocked URLs using a GPO to blacklist certain websites within the content ratings panel in IE8. I have a number of machines running IE9 on which this GPO does not work as the content ratings implementation differs on the two versions of internet explorer.

My question is, will it adversly affect the machines running IE8 if I were to create a similar GPO using IE9 which would be applied to the same OU. This would mean that both GPOs would potentially be applied to IE8 and IE9 machines.

Would the IE8 GPO simply fail on IE9 machines and vice versa?
