Does enabling the zone on the Blade (inside the 'zone admin') affect anything at all? Do any services stop/start?

hi guys

I've attached a screenshot what I would like to enable. It's enabling a zone, inside the zone admin. Would enabling this end up affecting any server activity on the blades at all?

So if I select 'OK' where I've shown the snapshot, would anything happen that I should know about?

thanks

Potentially it will cause disruption but it should only be a minor blip if you're just re-enabling a current config so disk based SAN kit and attached hosts shouldn't notice, that is if there was zoning in place bofore and you're just modifying a zone or adding another one it only effects the hosts in that zone. It can stop a tape backup in its tracks, they won't tolerate a 10th second blip.

For more information google for "Carefully executed, this will be non-disruptive to the devices on the fabric", something's gone wrong here and I can't pull the PDF up. It's a Brocade doc on Advanced Zoning advising to use single initiator zoning so that RSCNs only affect a single HBA and explaining how to convert from everything in one zone to single initiator zones.

You should also have redundant switches, so if multipathing is setup correctly unplugging a switch shouldn't stop the OS seeing the LUNs, I think you have a MSA2000 though and for those the default timeouts have to be changed as the LUNs take a minute to fail over and the OS has to be prepared to wait that long. HP's SAN design guide covers doing that on the HBAs.
