Outlook 2007 menu bar not working

On opening outlook 2007 I cannot use the menubar or create a new message, but if I open an old email and close it everything starts working ok.

This is happing on 2 machines both running windows 7 32bit and office 2007.
Antivirus is ESET.

Try starting Outlook in Safemode first of all. (Hold Control just after clicking Outlook)

Let me know the results,



All works fine in safe mode.

If it works in safe mode, then it will be an Add-in Which is Affecting Outlooks behavior

Close OUtlook
Open the registry and go to


Note all the current add ins
Note their load behavior

Then set them all to 0

Now open outlook and  Test

If it still works we now know its one of these add ins

Close Outlook
GO back to registry
Re-enable 1 of the add ins to their previous behavior

Now open outlook and test?

Still working ? Not Working?

Continue the process above until you find the faulting add in

Once you have determined the faulty add in
You can leave the load behavior at 0
You can Uninstall the Add in or App
You can uninstall and re-install the App with the add in
You can contact Vendor to see if they have an Update


Found it, it is the outlook connector we use for MDaemon Email Server. Further investigation found that it is the 'Show Progress' bar that is causing the problem.

By unticking the "Show progress indicator when loading messages" in the config resolves the problem.
