Found it, it is the outlook connector we use for MDaemon Email Server. Further investigation found that it is the 'Show Progress' bar that is causing the problem.<br />
<br />
By unticking the &quot;Show progress indicator when loading messages&quot; in the config resolves the problem.<br />

On opening outlook 2007 I cannot use the menubar or create a new message, but if I open an old email and close it everything starts working ok.<br />

This is happing on 2 machines both running windows 7 32bit and office 2007.<br />
Antivirus is ESET.
