Searching in Microsoft Outlook 2007 Issue

Hi, our clients use microsoft outlook 2007 on an exchange server. I 2 users who gets a lot of emails (more than most in the company) and when they search for past emails from particular users all of the results do not yield in the search results. The emails are in the inbox if you go and scroll to them from the date they were received so they ARE in the inbox, but when searching for them many of the results do not come up.

I tried installing indexing that did not help. I setup the user's profiles on a test machine and I am getting the same issue. I am wondering if the outlook search engine is just limited in this manner?

Modify your search scope using the Advanced Find.

(1) Outlook > Tools > Instant Search > Search Options > Untick data files
(2) Outlook > Tools > Instant Search > Search Options > Tick data files which you want indexed
(3) Let your cmputer sit idle for a while

Which Exchange Server version are you using, and is server-side full text indexing enabled?

I do not see those options under instant search > search options

You should also be able to get there by going to Control Panel > Indexing Options

I installed windows search 4.0 now when I test some searches in outlook i get the notice stating 'search results may not be complete because outlook is indexing." It has been doing this for almost 5 hours. The user has A LOT of emails. Is this normal?

It is normal for search indexing to take some time, based on the number of items.  It is indexing Outlook items as well as My Documents files.  When I install search on a system, I tell users to expect indexing to be done by the next day.
This is the best money I have ever spent. I cannot not tell you how many times these folks have saved my bacon. I learn so much from the contributors.

I installed WDS 4.0 which improved the search results dramatically. The user is happy. This is resolved. Thanks
