Windows Live Messanger

Hi Experts,

When XP starts a Windows Live Messenger window opens and shows me what contacts are online. At the same time another Windows Live Messenger window opens with news. How do I stop the news window opening at start up. The contacts window is all I want.

He's talking about "Windows Live Messenger" - which could be version 2011 etc.

In such a case, click on "Tools" and select "Options".
Click on the "Sign In" section on the left side of the window.
Uncheck the box that reads "Open the main window when messenger signs in"
Click "OK".
Thank you for pointing that out neilpage99.  I don't have any version of messenger installed at work so I couldn't verify the settings.  I just know that I ran msn messenger for a long time and knew the settings for it.

However, don't you mean to:

Uncheck the box that reads "Show Windows Live Today after I sign in to Messenger"

For versions older than 2009 select "General"
No, that's not how the check box option reads in version 2011. It reads:
"Open the main window when messenger signs in"
Okay,  again, I don't have it at work and am basing it on memory and a couple of other things.

What it still comes back to is my original comment on it being version dependent.

I think between the two of us we probably covered all versions/possibilities now but I could be mistaken.   :)
