Try with disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP.  Also check that the multiple Antivirus and/or Firewalls are not installed.
Is anti-virus software installed on the server? If so, it may be using too many kernel resources.

Microsoft provide a fix for this problem here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822789

Otherwise, what server is it, and what OS?

Hi thanks.
Have downloaded and attampted to apply fix in kb822789 but came back with 'not applicable update'

OS is Server 2008R2 on a Proliant DL380 G5.

Thanks guys.
Check if there are dump files in c:\windows\minidump. If so, upload the latest dmp file and I will analyze it for you if possible.
Have you updated the Firmware of HP Proliant DL380 G5 for making ready for Windows 2008 R2?  It is older system than release of Win 2008 R2 and it requires Firmware Update.

You can obtain latest Firmware Update ISO DVD image from HP Support website.
Hi,

I have attached the most recent dmp file.

Thanks
I can't see the attached file... did you upload it to EE?
Sorry I didnt actually click 'Attach' the first time.
Mini052312-04.dmp
Can you tell us if you installed Antivirus or firewall software on the server?
Server is running latest version of Kaspersky, thanks.
