Hi,

I need help with a lv_test5 that must be renamed in lv_test12. It's a raw device now.

Except chlv, do I have to run some other commands?

chlv -n lv_test12 lv_test5

Thank you!

No, that's all you'll have to do.

The LV may not be open/in use while renaming it.

If it's "raw" without any filesystem or other application running on it then it should not be open, obviously.

Owner/group/mode will be preserved.

Perfect as usual.

Hi wmp,

I was thinking, if the LV was in use by a application for example, AIX wouldn't perform the lv rename, is that right?

Yes. it will produce an error message:

0516-708 chlv: Cannot rename open logical volume.
