Hello experts,

I have two old DCs in my sites and services that I want to safely remove.  What is the best way to do this?  Both servers failed so I am unable to DCPROMO on them.

THanks

Make sure those servers are not holding any FSMO / OM roles?

Verify this using

netdom query fsmo

If they do not, you can delete them from Active Directory Sites and Services and replicate changes.

Since both servers failed, you will want to clean out the metadata.  Follow steps here:

As the DCPROMO failed, you need to run it again, on the DC you want to remove, using the /forceremoval option.

If servers are already deleted/formated, then proceed with the meta datacleanup as suggested.

Sites and Services entries for the failed DC's can safely be deleted directly from the Console.
