Yahoo mail user getting duplicate emails from our exchange server

One of the users sent out 1 email to xxx@verizon.net.  We got a delivery delay but then the user called to complain that they got over 100 emails (the same email over 100 times) from this user.

I have traced the message and see exchange has tried to send the message to many of the vmsxxxxxxpub.verizon.net servers.

Is this purly a verizon issue or an exchange issue on our side.

The verizon.net person is really ticked off so any assistance you could provide would be very welcome.

Thanks.

Sounds to me that this is on the verizon.net side of things. Your server is obviously connecting and queueing the mail, but you're not hearing back from the remote mail server that the SMTP transaction was successful.

In the short term, you can open the queue viewer and delete the message that's still in the queue on your side. At least it won't get sent again. But then that doesn't tell you much about what made it happen in the first place.
