SQL Server not registering in DNS

Earl28 used Ask the Experts™
I have a SQL Server 2008 Cluster that is having issues registering with DNS.  I get the error message: Event ID 1196, Cluster network name resource (name) failed registration of one or more associated DNS names for the following reason:  No connection could be made because the targt machine actively refused it.

I have ensured authenitcated users has neccesary permissions on the A record, I have deleted the A record and recreated it with the authenticated users check box checked.

Any ideas? TIA.

DNS registration is done by the computer object, not the user account, right?  So you'd have to ensure the computer object exists in AD with the correct permissions.

This sounds like either your cluster isn't joined to the domain, or its name conflicts with a computer object already in the domain.
