Windows 7 computers will run windows updates while connected to a Windows 2003 Domain

We have a pretty smal network.  We run a Windows 2003 Server SP2.   We recently replaced 3  XP computers on our network with Windows 7 Professional. Once these computers joined the domain,  the Windows update feature is disabled.  The Windows update has line that reads You receive updates: Managed by system administrator.  I do not have Group Policies in my domain.  We have never configured any at all in our small domain.  

At the present,  the only way to get updates is to join a workgroup and then I can get updates.  I am at a loss as what to do.  I can't find anything on our server restricting access.

While the machine is on the domain. Go to an elevated command prompt and run "gpupdate /force", restart the client. Then go to the server and run the GP Results wizard to see if in fact any policies are being applied.

Here are directions for using GP result wizard.
This means you either have the Windows Update settings configured through the LGPO or GPO.

You can verify this by running:

gpresult /R
