Asus laptop Blue Screen Issue

I have an Asus laptop running Vista Home Premium which has a blue screen eror issue during start-up.
The laptop will not start-up to desktop.  part way through the boot up we get a blue screen error:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated...........

It then re-starts.  It is caught in this loop.

The laptop OS was re-installed a month ago and worked perfectly up until 3 days ago.

I have tried to repair with Vista CD and also gotten a command prompt in the CD and tried chkdsk/r and sfc /scannow

Neither of these work.
I have also taken 1 2GB RAM chip out in case it was that.

Can anyone else suggest a fix for this, before I have to re-install the OS
Windows Vista

How to troubleshoot a "STOP 0xC000021A" error

Not sure what your technical level is but above is an MS KB on how to troubleshoot this issue. I would try "last known good configuration" first, if you haven't already.

I would suggest hit F8 at the logo image, in boot options, select safe mode and then go to system restore. if you can get to safe mode, go back to the boot options (power up>F8) select repair installation, then system restore. restore to a day you remember the system was working fine and give it a try - if that doesn't a clean install will most likely do it.

Have you tried to boot from the CD, select install and the repair the windows installation? I think that's an option you could try without losing your files/programs.

Have you tried an in-place reinstall? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099
Supposed to reinstall the OS without destroying data.

It could mean your hard drive is dying, so I would first run full diagnostics on that

I hope this helps !

Windows Vista
Windows Vista

Windows Vista is an operating system created by Microsoft as the successor to Windows XP. It was intended for PCs, workstations and laptops, and shares the same code base as its successor, Windows 7. New features included an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Aero, a new search component called Windows Search, redesigned networking, audio, print and display subsystems, and new multimedia tools. Vista aimed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network, using peer-to-peer technology to simplify sharing files and media between computers and devices. Windows Vista included version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, allowing software developers to write applications without traditional Windows APIs.
