DNS
We have an internal web server and users like to use the external address to access the site. I would like to set up a DNS record that will redirect the traffic going to www.mysite.com to go to the internal IP address. Any help would be appreciated.
Create a pointer called www.mysite.com and direct it to the internal address of the webserver.

Our domain name is managed by an outside company. It is different from our internal domain name. Ex (Internal - company.local) (External - company.k12.in.us)

Ok I created a PTR record under Forward Lookup Zone to point the external address to our internal address. I flushed the DNS and did an nslookup and it's still resolving to the external address. Any thoughts.
Ask them to give the registrar login us, where you had registrar the domain.
So we can login & do that.
You don't have to set up DNS server locally.

Worked!
login, Login into domain registrar & you can add your external IP address as A records, MX entries & then you can browse your site through domain name.
Example - www.mydomain.com
