Accessing a file on an NTFS file share via SharePoint 2010 via a firewall

I have a massive NTFS file share, its about 3 or 4 TB in size. Anyhow I want to people to be able to search the files share effectively and as we also have SharePoint 2010 I'm thinking of using this to provide the indexing and search capability for the file store.

I have a questions about this though:

We may be installing a firewall between the users pc's and the environment which hosts SharePoint and the ntfs file share. Now, if people use Sharepoint to open the files that are actually in the NTFS files share (by searching in SharePoint for it) will I need to only only http on the firewall or would I require smb\rpc as well?
