Unable to copy vmdk file
I'm running ESX 4.1. Trying to copy a VM to a new datastore.
Powered off VM, selected all files in the current datastore, copied to the new datastore. All files copy except 1, vm1.vmdk.
All I get is error caused by file , path to vm1.vmdk.
I have no idea where to look. I have tried to remove from inventory and add back to inventory. I have no problems with this machine at all, can power on and its functional. Have confirmed my datastore has enough free space.
Please help!
Thank you

When I have issues like that, I will clone the server to another datastore and delete the original one.
If the VM is off then why not use Storage vMotion and move the files that way, presuming of course that the servers have access to both datastores.

We are using Essentials, Storage VMotion is not an option, which is a bummer.
It was actually that another VM was using files on the datastore that I did not realize.
Thank you!

Storage vMotion is available if the system is powered off from memory.
Right Click then select Migrate then Select Move Datastore.
Sorry i don't have a 4.1 Essentials install anywhere to check.

@wullieb1 Storage vMotion is a Live "HOT" Migration, what you are describing is a Cold Migration. Storage vMotion only available on certain VMware vSphere License Products.
@hancocka: Thanks for clearing that up.
Got that much going on at the moment i get it mixed up :) :)

The file was in use by another vm.
