Cannot Remote Control on TS Server 2008
Hello experts,
Hope your weekend was a relaxing one!
I need your advise on the following:
I have one Terminal Server on a Windows 2008 SP2 machine. My users can connect to it and everything works fine except for the fact that I can no longer remote control other users' sessions.
When I attempt to remote control, the user does see a pop-up asking for permission (this is normal), but when they select yes, their session is disconnected and I am not connected! This strange behavior started about a week ago.
I was able to do it in the past, but I am not sure what changed.
The only significant recent change is that I implemented a WSUS server to manage Windows updates.
I have domain admin rights but I have tried with both my user ID as well as the domain administrator user ID.
Thanks for your time and help!

How are you initiating remote control? TSADMIN or Task Manager?
ASKER
TSADMIN (Terminal Services Manager) from a desktop shortcut that goes back to the target at:
%SystemRoot%\system32\tsad min.msc.
%SystemRoot%\system32\tsad
Can you remote control from Task Manager or Shadow? If Task Manager and Shadow work but TSADMIN doesn't then there is a specific issue.
ASKER
Tried to remote control from Task Manager and the result is the same. The user session is disconnected and I was not connected.
Did you open the task manager or Remote Desktop Services Manager with " Run as Administrator" .
If that not work, try the below steps.
Windows Server 2008 (SP1 or SP2)
1. Logon to the Terminal Services computer as an administrator
2. Start--Run gpedit.msc, click Continue if prompted by UAC
3. In the left pane, under Computer Configuration, navigate to following:
Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Remote Session Environment
4. In the right pane, double-click on Set compression algorithm for RDP data
5. Select Enabled, and choose Balances memory and network bandwidth
6. Click OK to save the change
