Hi i had this error on new machine today:<br />
I orginally enabled TCP/IP, and Named Pipes? but it would not work so I disable Named Pipes using Sql Server Configuration Manager resolved it for me.

I did enable both of those as you did, so I have just disabled the named pipes and restarted the SQL services but I am still getting the same error.

Cannot connect - see attached screenshot.<br />

New install of SQL Server 2008 on a new server - I just cannot connect to the database to import an Iris SQL DB for next stage. <br />
<br />
Followed this article to no avail..<br />
