generally Blackberries read the contacts from the master Contact folder on the user's mailbox profile, if you have any sub-folders in Contacts, those do not get listed/sync'ed to the device.

if you don't have a BES server controlling your device, then you can use the Desktop Manager application to help setup Outlook to sync with your handset via the USB cable.  If you already have a contact folder on your handset, you need to add new contacts to that folder in Outlook for it to update to the handset, but you can only have one personal contact folder linked (using Public contact folders can only be done via a BES server to my knowledge).

I have 2 email accounts setup on my blackberry. 1 is a hotmail account and the contact list was automatically created because i have contacts there.

2 is my business email and there are no contacts for this account on the hosting company's server, the contacts are all in outlook.

Are you saying that i cannot create a separate list on my bb for these contacts?

How can i tell if i have BIS or BES? I just got this thing yesterday and do not know much about it. I have had both email accounts for years though.

I am using blackberry desktop software to sync my data.
I have setup to sync Calendar, memopad, and address book with outlook and blackberry.
When i run the sync it merges the contacts with my hotmail contact list.

Yes i see that filtering option there, its weird that some things just have to be this complicated. Makes you wonder who they were thinking about when they made the phone.

I might just delete all the hotmail contacts there are alot of duplicates in there, and just not worry about having both lists in there. Thanks for your help though.
no probs.  a lot of this additional mailbox support & features was added to try and woo consumers to the devices.
