sharing a folder in a workgroup

I have 2 pc's that are in a workgroup called "mshome"  Both have usernames that are also administrators.  One is XP PRO and the other is 7 PRO.  I have shared out a folder on the 7 PRO pc and allowed "everyone" full read and write.  When I go to start - run - \\name of pc it comes up with a username and password to get into the computer and the share.  How do you type in the username correctly to get onto the computer?  There are no passwords and the username of the 7 PRO computer is f-lf1.  Do I need to have the workgroup typed in?

By the way.  I can share out a folder on the XP PRO pc and the 7 PRO pc can connect to it right away without any username or password.

I have tried f-lf1 with no password and it will not let me in.  It just pops back to enter in the username and password again like it is typed in wrong.
With Windows 7 most likely you have it set for password protected sharing.  So if you don't put in a password (Even though your account doesn't have a password) you won't be able to access the share.  You can however turn this feature off. Although my suggestion would be to put a simple password on your Windows 7 computer.  Here is how to turn off Password Protected Sharing.

1. Click Start, enter "Network and Sharing Center" in the Start Search box .
2. Click "Change advanced sharing settings" in the left pane.
3. Make sure that "Password protected sharing" is turned off.

Good Luck HTH.

I strongly recommend setting up an identical set of userid/password combinations on each machine.  It makes sharing within a workgroup almost transparent.

Here is a good tutorial that I normally pass along to people configuring a mixed OS workgroup:

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP
