Windows 2008 Standard Disk Partitions
I have done a fresh install of windows 2008 server. It will not let me create a disk larger than 2TB. This kind of defeats the purpose.
You need to use GPT to support anything larger than 1.96TB.
Did you initialize the disk with a GPT partition table? A MBR-style partition cannot be larger than 2TB.
As stated, the disk must be set to GPT.

What is GPT and how do I run it?
Diskmgmt.msc
GPT (GUID Partition Table)
Note: The GPT partition style is not recognized by all previous versions of Windows. It is recommended for disks larger than 2TB, or disks used on Itanium-based computers.
