VSS event ID 12294 "error calling a routine on the shadow copy provider"

Source: VSS
Event ID: 12294

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error calling a routine on the Shadow Copy Provider {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5}. Routine returned E_INVALIDARG. Routine details GetSnapshot({00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000},000A27E0).

I'm having trouble finding details on this one. Investing ntbackup failing over the past 2 days, I noticed this error has been frequent.

It's on a Win 2003 box that is primarily used as a fileserver and for MSSQL.

ASKER

I disabled shadow copies after I discovered all of the errors, and they stopped for... a few hours, so I guess they didn't at all. Anyway, I'm getting flooded and I can't tell where they're coming from! I've not found much to read about 12294...

I see no mention of 12294 in the notes. Which of those symptoms stand out to you as being similar to what I'm describing?

What's the risk of installing the hotfix is it doesn't specifically apply to me?

I am using CrashPlan. I've used it for over 2 years though and this problem is pretty recent. I'll check those out...
Let me know what you find and what I can do to help.
