Is it safe to use Remote Desktop Connection over a WAN?
I have a new site that I'll be supporting & discovered that they are currently using Remote Desktop Connection on their Windows 7 Pro & XP to gain access to their office computers from home. The router is currently configured to forward the ports & they're on a peer-to-peer workgroup
I'm wondering if RDC is really the best solution since I can't restrict access from a particular source IP since they receive dynamic IPs from their personal ISPs at home. Additionally, isn't RDC unencrypted? Since they're not connecting via a VPN, I'm concerned about security.
Would a free LogMeIn account be the cheapest/easiest way to go?

Configure the VPN and perform the remote connection through said VPN bridge.
RDP in its default config is vulnerable to MITM attacks. You could look into software like RealVNC which is better than RDP by far, but not as good as commercial solutions like say, Citrix ICA.

@techisobs, we currently don't have any kind of VPN in place...plus, I'm super rusty ;0). Wouldn't I need software and/or hardware to accomplish that?

@Jornak, is there an advantage to using RealVNC over something I'm already familiar with (i.e. LogMeIn)?
