If I Lost My Work; Is There A Fail Proof Way Or Means LibreOffice Has The Ability To Automatically Make User Setup & Customized Backups In Some Specified Folder Directory Location Within Linux Ubuntu?

Hello. I use the latest version of LibreOffice version 3.5.3, English (US) on my Linux Ubuntu v.12.04 64-bit LTS system.

Often when I am working with any one of the components of the entire suite of LibreOffice like LibreOffice Writer, Calc, Impress, and Draw to name a few; I notice that if 'I accidentally' close a component program (That is close the window.) WITHOUT saving my work; by sheer stupidity out of my part (Honestly, it has happened even when I received the message if I wanted to save my work; I have ignored it and went ahead and closed the LibreOffice component program.); therefore I have lost my work. Yes, normally I always save my work; but yes, I will be sincere, 'stupid' accidents happen to me because I am not thinking and 'too window happy' closing the open windows when many windows are indeed open in Linux Ubuntu and not just the LibreOffice suite program components. I have to think in reality, this has even happened to you too.

Questions – please answer both:

1. Now, if I make a stupid accident and lost my work; is there a fail proof way or means where in the background (out of the sight and interaction of the actual user) where LibreOffice's component programs have the ability to 'automatically' make backups in some specified folder directory location within Linux Ubuntu operating system? For example: a LibreOffice Writer file (*.odt) would be saved under some specifiable conditions, special event, or immediate action at a specified folder directory location?

2. Also ask, can these specifiable conditions, special event, or immediate action can in some means be user preset if desired and different from the default settings?

If you can suggest or recommend an answer or solution inherent within LibreOffice's own settings and configurations that I may not be aware of that has this capability of presetting a user LibreOffice backup features and functions, please provide me the name of the process or procedures and the actual process or procedures in steps as well. If your answer and solution requires the use (download and install) of separate program(s) for my Linux Ubuntu's LibreOffice, then please provide me the program name and the webpage (preferably the author's/developer's/company's home website for the program). Please make sure there are 'good' instructions for installation procedures. Let me know if it is available on the Ubuntu Software Center, and if not; where the reliable and reputable program/program package is available for download or online instructions for manual installation through Terminal using apt-get or alike. Preferably free, but if there a monetary cost associated with the program/program package, that is fine too.

Please reply.

Thank you!

@ DaveBaldwin:

Hello again.

Thank you for your latest comment.

First, " Us 'old timers' wear out..."... ...I need a good old dry humored chuckle once in a while! ;-)))

Okay, I totally appreciate your two pronged answer and solution here. I like the manual keystroke answer and your program settings answer. I am sure to increased my chances of the latest saves/backups while I am working on my LibreOffice Writer documents.

I am going to close this thread now.

Thank you very much!
