Video Capture & Editing

Repeated reinstalls of Windows Live Movie Maker fail to produce a viable application. Initially the error suggested that MOV not a supported format. and error 0xC946001E displayed. Further trials with an internet connection operating lead to a series of messages that "corexxxx.dll not available" the first one being "coremultimedia.dll". From other advise the named function/software was copied from Corel Snapfire and inserted in Windows\system32. This was repeated through 11 functions until there were no more errors and the application accepted the MOV files and displayed them. However a number of errors remained. Some parts of the files were played but somewhat erratic - stuttering and loss of sync between video & audio. Subsequently the application crashed. 24 more "corexxxx.dll" are seen in the Corel software but these were not indicated as being required by the application (WLMM) so have not been copied to the system32 file.
The MOV files can be played with QuickTime so are not corrupted and can be converted to WMV which can be played in WLMM. This suggests a problem with WLMM not accepting MOV files in spite of the Microsoft comment that it is a format which can be handled by WLMM

it is supported, I just downloaded and installed WLMM, dragged in a few .mov's and then saved a video. Perhaps you have a broken codec or are missing a codec, grap gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and check these files
Please make sure your windows 7 is up to date. Drivers up to date.
Which version professional or home basic ??
Windows have different versions some being limited versions of the Professional and ultimate.
Some dlls may contain a virus?
Have you scanned your computer recently to ensure you have no viruses?
Corrupt/invalid registry entries may cause problems.
When there is lock ups please check a virus scan,  system disc cleanup.then a defrag .

I have W7 Professional x 32 bit and I had to install Klite pack
My Windows Live Moviemaker supports most video formats and drag and drop works fine.
Have the video on your local hard drive.

Do you have any codec packs installed?
VLC? player<< gives support for directshow.

Try installing the ffdshow codec and AC3 filter
or better the K-Lite pack
The fact you get jitters and playback is a sign of missing codecs

Sorry about delay. Other problems with video download via Picture Motion Browser are being investigated.

Have downloaded codecs via K-Lite but not yet tested.

However the codec for .MOV must be available somewhere on my PC since I can play the MOV files with QuickTime and with Corel. Can it not be copied to a file where WLMM can access it? At the moment I have uninstalled the Live Essentials following a registry problem.

Note my OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
This version of Windows Live Essentials requires the following:
Operating system: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (32-bit edition only), or Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit editions), or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit editions), or Windows Server 2008.
It is quite compatible with your Vista

When you attempt to install dlls or stuff for video editing with the name functions?
it may have corrupted the other video editing tools?
Do you have system restore?
Please expand what you mean here Kaybee40>Can it not be copied to a file where WLMM can access it?

Are you downloading a video in >mov format and wish to edit in WLMM?
Your original comment needs deciphering..
From other advise the named function/software was copied from Corel Snapfire and inserted in Windows\system32. ???

This was repeated through 11 functions until there were no more errors and the application accepted the MOV files and displayed them.?? this not WLMM?
The codec pack should resolve it.

>Mov is a QT format
Could be the audio codecs used in .Mov
You need to understand the difference between a container and a codec.
 >.mov appears that windows movie maker doesn't support the codec of this .Mov
movie file was compressed with. or WLMM is corrupted.
You will need to either convert the video to a codec windows movie maker will be able to take. Another option is to see if you can download some sort of update for windows live or add-on for the codec you're trying to edit with.

If you could drop test it analyse it in Gspot as suggested by Ve3ofa
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GSpot
Start again. Note I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS, not Windows 7.Many years of using WMM were successful with a Sony HandyCam until a new video recorder (Mini DVR HD 1080P) was used which produced MOV files. Forget about the problems with the HanyCam for the moment.
The updated Windows Live Movie Maker was suggested as being appropriate for MOV files so was installed, apparently successfully since it did work with other movie file formats (converted from the MOV files using MOVAVI video converter) but not MOV files.
However MOV files can be played with QuickTime and with Corel Video Studio (trial copy). Hence my comment that the codec for the file type must be present on my PC in at least one location, maybe two. Downloaded codecs from K-Lite did not solve the problem.
Hence my comment about the existence of "a program/set of instructions/procedure" whatever existing on my PC, whether it is a "container" or "codec" in your terminology. So why cannot the set of coding be made available to WLMM? Why cannot WLMM "see/find" the codec particularly as it has been apparently downloaded from K-Lite? This all points to a problem with WLMM and not the non-existence of a codec.
Various registry cleaners have been run and WLMM has beeen uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Seems that what is needed is a way of finding what is stopping WLMM from either executing the appropriate codec or finding it.
See attached.
See attached? looking!! Kaybee40
The only codec you need to play just about any video format is VLC media player, Media Player Classic Home Cinema, these open source players provide the carrier for FFDSHOW codec.
You can Also install FFDSHOW as a stand alone, it highly valuable as a background video/audio compressor codec and runs only when you play a video in a media player and adds support to that media player so it will play other propriety video .
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffdshow and the free version Divx Player pro
When a video won’t open in  Live Movie Maker; it could be that your video card driver is outdated<< unlikely.., a missing codec possibly.., or file is not fully supported and needs to be converted.<< highly likely.
One thing that really shouts at me is this>> .Mov are hd 1080p<< I believe this is not supported to my knowledge in windows Live Moviemaker.
Problem solved you have to convert them.
WLMM is good but is not really a professional tool like Power Director 10, Sony Vegas, Nero Vision, Adobe Premier.
What kind of files can I use in Movie Maker?
I'd simply convert these to WMV HD Video or mp4  very good quality.
Look at the supported formats and convert to nearest quality
http://www.aunsoft.com/edit_nikon_d3100_1080p_mov_in_windows_movie_maker_on_windows_7_vista_xp/

I have to convert  video all the time for different reasons, but I use S.U.P.E.R it is still the best for me..Very simple and reliable.
Some say it is full of spyware, so I installed the latest version to test and have never had any problems.. it only offers a toolbar just like many other free tools I just say no
and I don't accept the yahoo or whatever and the installer will still run anyway, this catches a lot of people out.
Some avi have many different compression, same with .Mov..
Install Gspot ( trust me this is one tool you should always have) to diagnose audio or video
problems, to find out what codecs are used what the video scale is etc..
drop one of your .mov on and then wait 2 secs hit the print screen tab next to F12 and paste your screen cast into a photo editor/ or Paint or word etc.. and save as jpeg and upload here using the picture above right at the end in the tab. Or attach File below
I can then see what is in this .Mov that WLMM does not like.
Very likely it is the AC3 audio format.or the hd 1080p
Gspot will also show if codecs are installed and or if there is a problem.
If they played in WLMM after converting that confirms the format used is not native to WLMM.
Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS,  yep got that..

Apologies - attachment was above limit of 59MB.
Since last comment I have successfuly displayed the MOV files with iTunes and Windows Live Photo Gallery after asking to "try again" a couple of times. So frustrating that every player tried except WLMM will play the MOV files.
Hopefully now attaching files. 2 are gspot and 2 are mov files relating to these gspot analyses.

Now see that MOV not acceptable for attachment.

Thanks,  no sorry EE does not support video what you can use is the file dropper then post the URL back here and I'll upload it to test it
http://www.filedropper.com/
Gspot has determined that your system may not have the necessary codecs as
Codec status undetermined is listed.
You have no codecs installed Kaybee40.
 they are avc1  -H.264
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
codec used mp4a -mpeg-4AAC LC
this compression is a propriety codec owned by Apple

FourCC

Your only option is to convert the file to mp4 or WMV HD Video to remove the compression.
That is if you want to use it WLMM, otherwise you need to use Apple

this tools provides a little more
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MediaInfo

The only fix to be able play it in other media players is to install a codec pack possibly.

But drop one onto file dropper and I'll test it then I can post back if I can get it to work in WLMM and what codecs I have installed.
I'm running windows 7  professional x 32.
I have to go work now will check in when I get home and post back my results

This is only my opinion but I don't like fighting with applications. If it doesn't work I either don't use that app or find a work around.

For instance. Trainsignal dvd video's that use the TSCC codec will not play in my internet explorer .. These .avi's will play EVERYWHERE else but not in Internet Explorer So I convert them to another codec that does play and then burn the dvd as something that will work universally.

Camtasia Studio has problems with vmware workstation video's, again I convert these files to something Camtasia Studio can use.

I could spend hours troubleshooting IE or Camtasia Studio but my life and getting the job done is more important..
