Equation Editor disabled in MS Word 2007
Hi Experts,
When I click on the Insert tab, the Equation item is greyed out.
I have checked the Office 2007 components via Control Panel | Programs and it shows that the Equation Editor is installed.
As a workaround, I have tried inserting an equation via the Insert Object menu (see here). That works, but although I can create an equation, there is no menu item that will let me enlarge the text.
Regards,
Leigh

Are you working in compatibility mode (Word 2003 format - .doc)? If so, try saving the file in Word 2007 format (.docx). Word 2007 greys out the Equation Editor when working in compatibility mode.

I have tried saving the file in Word 2007 format (.docx), but when that file is open the Word Title Bar still has [Compatibility Mode] displayed in it.
Agree. I tried both Word 2007 and also Word 2010. Equation Editor is greyed out in both versions if working in Compatability Mode.
Switching to new DOCX mode, using Equation Editor and saving as new DOCX mode may prevent opening in the old format with Compatability mode, so you need to check that.

Did you save in DOCX, close Word and then re-open the new .DOCX file? Try that. It works for me. ... Thinkapds_User

You may need to convert the document first. Click on the Office button (upper left) and click on Convert.
Consider the following course of action then.
Do an Office Repair. Go to Word, Options, Trust Center, Privacy Options and check (select) the option to "Download a file periodically from Microsoft". Complete that and exit, then Help, Diagnostics and run Diagnostics. This should take a while. Allow to complete and restart.
After restart, go to Programs and Features, click on Office and Change. Do a Modify and check that Equation Editor is installed. You might at this time elect Full Install instead of Typical to make sure all you need is installed. You do not need languages foreign to you, but take everything else.

Before I saw the last 3 posts, I created a new/blank .docx.
Equation Editor is enabled for that document.
I inserted an equation and all the menus looked OK.
So I think it's some sort of document compatibility problem, not a Word 2007 configuration issue.
