Name this item
Well, Model Aire Inc was a miniature airplane builder back in the 40s, so I'd imagine that maybe the fishing part is irrelevant.
Please give the dimensions.

6.25 inches from the tip of the point to the other end.
3.0 inches from the bottom to the top.
Someone elsewhere, said it might be related to a model airplane.
Not sure its to do with fishing as the logo on the handgrip says Modelaire a well known model airplane manufacturer, at a guess i'd say it might be a hand grip for one of those tethered model planes that fly around in a circle on a string,if so there should be another fitting like the one already attached to make the plane go up or down in its circuit.
I thought it might be related to fishing and the point end was inserted in the gills of the fish to remove the hook, etc.
So, I have revealed the two ideas on it.
So, hopefully someone can provide a photo or some evidence if it is a model airplane device. I don't think it is 70+ years old (1940's), the rubber is too soft.

All I can find about Model Aire Inc online is some obscure newspaper clippings which might or might not indicate some proximity to Ohio. Modelair is the more well known one, but it certainly isn't based in Akron.
I agree that it looks much newer than the 40s.
The tethered plane/kite angle seems to make sense, but I can't find anything that looks remotely similar.

Oops. A little late to the game. Work distracted me again.

Akron Ohio is printed on the rubber handle.
Modelaire, Inc.
Akron Ohio.
Actually these things are selling well on Ebay.
I headed there with mine.
The others that are selling, are made of wood, plastic, etc.
Mine might get a bid.
Otherwise it was headed to the trash can.
