How to stop default audio device changing in Windows XP
Hi,
We currently have a Windows XP machine that uses two different audio devices, a headset for speech recognition and microphone for dictation. For dictating the default device in XP needs to be the microphone however every time you plug in a new headset it changes the default device in XP and then stops our dictation device working.
Is there a reg edit fix or anything else to try so the default device remains as the microphone in XP?

A very good idea with using a designated USB extension lead specifically for headsets, this is something I will definitely do.
Thanks for the other solution - I will try this and feedback.
