missing icons in word2003 to minimize and resize open doc.

I am running office 2003 under winXP. Recently I noticed that in Word2003 the usual icons (located on the MENU bar on the extreme right next to the Help search box) (in the shape of a flat line and in the shape of 2 overlapping rectangles) have dissapeared. I am not talking about these similar icons which appear(slightly larger in size) on the top blue window frame. Those icons are still there. The icons that dissapeared are the ones used within word to transition between multiple open docs in word. I can open multiple docs in word, but, I can not minimize the active doc to facilitate cut and paste between 2 open docs. The only recourse I have is to tab to the individual open docs (on the taskbar). I now note that the 2 icons dissapeared in excel2003 as well, which kind of points to office 2003 being the source of the problem.

Any help???

This is amazing...

neither long sessions searching on google, talking to colleagues was of any use.  Less than 1 hour after posting the question here, I get the absolutely correct solution on the 1st reply.

Thanks.
It's not an easy thing to Google for, and the connection between the option name and its effect is less than intuitive.
Your help has saved me hundreds of hours of internet surfing.
