Windows Installer - Windows XP

Greetings experts at EE... I have been trying to find a 'real' solution to eliminating this awful flashing pop-up that I get on my XP system every 8-10 minutes. I have searched here, I have searched Microsoft's site, I have used Google and Bing, and yet, here I am, a month later, and still no answers.

I have run software like System Mechanic, Reimage Repair, PC Health Boost, PC Pitstop, Spybot and different anti-malware were programs.

I run Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 for anti-virus.

Anyone have any ideas at all? This damn popup is really becoming annoying.

I have attached a screenshot of the popup window for reference.

This is an incomplete installation that's stuck in in a loop - you can sort it out with windows own uninstalled software: the windows installer cleanup utility.

It's available from here- http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml

Is this a dell by any chance?

You can try boot your OS in clean boot

Then check if the installer popup again

chrisalis... I have tried this option as well, and this is the popup window error that I keep getting.

FYI, I am not running the program in safe mode.

liorkr... I am going to try the Clean Boot method once again and see if it works. I had tried this method a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't have any success. Maybe I need to re-enable the start-up programs one at a time until the culprit rears its ugly head?
Not at home at the moment, so limited help I,m afraid. You'll probably need to check that the installer service is not disabled.

Start -run -type services.msc and see if you can screen print the list of services running for me.

You did say this was xp? Are you on xp pro, possibly on a server connection?

chrisalis... Yes, the PC is a Dell Vostro 410.

I've seen this behaviour with Roxio media centre when it fails to update - you may want to check and see if you have that installed?

chrisalis... I have located the program causing the annoying popup window... It is ISUSPM... Since disabling this from starting, the annoying Windows Installer popup window has disappeared. It's been over two hours now, and not a single instance.

Case closed and thank-you very much for pointing me in the right direction.

Removal of the program ISUSPM from the start-up tab of the System Config Utility finally resolved my issue.
Right - thats the installshield updater - it is set to automatically search for updates on certain installed programs (anything that Installshield has been used for in the original installation) - typically (on Dells) such things as Multimedia software and CD writing stuff - (so we could well be back to Roxio again - as in my earlier post!)

Glad you got it sorted, and thansk for the points.
