Outlook mail in wrong account sent mail folder

I have 2 accounts in my outlook 2010 profile. One is an exchange account, the other an imap account. Often when I send mail from my imap account, it appears during sending in my exchange outbox then moves to the exchange sent items once sent!
Why is this happening?

It probably does this because your Exchange account is the default account and Outlook sends via default account unless told otherwise.

So when you create an email in Outlook to send, use the pull down to select the IMAP account before sending. Then send. I think that should fix it. .... Thinkpads_User

Hi, I always check that it was being sent thru correct account. This was my first check.

If I open one of the messages in the sent items folder, it clearly states that it was sent thru imap account.

Outlook 2010 keep separate folders for each mail account. Are you using the Exchange Profile for everything? You may need to use separate profiles for Exchange and for IMAP

Hmm....I am using a single profile but separate accounts which seems to be the way outlook expects it to operate! It would seem like taking a step backwards to use separate profiles and I assume I would then need to open & close outlook to check each profile.

I use one profile with multiple accounts but I have only one set of folders and use POP only.

But I think that the one profile is probably what is causing mail to go into the Exchange folder. I don't know any other reason. Exchange is a different beast than POP or IMAP and Exchange may be trying to own everything.

Hello thorpey83

Look at this article:

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/outlook-2010/multiple-accounts-and-the-default-account/

especially part way down under SP1. It shows a way for altering default behaviour when you have one profile.

It may address what you are looking for. .... Thinkpads_User

Hmm...tried the above but without change. Oddly although the sending and sent mail appears in the exchange folders, when it is recieved, it shows that it came via IMAP account!

You can try doing an Office Repair to see if something went wrong in Outlook. For Office 2010, Repair is found in Control Panel by clicking on Microsoft Office and selecting change/repair.
