converting 2008 r2 to exsi 5

Hi and thanks in advance,

Physical Server: win 2008 r2
VMwarever: 5.0

I have tried to convert 2008 r2 from physical to virtual vmware 5 but can not because converter will not convert fat 32 partitions. I was informed by vmware that their cold clone CD is no longer supported and it is decommissioned  so I will be not able to use it. To workaround the converter issue, I deselected all FAT/FAT32 volumes on the View/Edit options page of the Conversion wizard and discovered that the NTFS partition converted but when I started the virtual server vmware said no OS.

Is there a way to convert a fat32 OS partition to ntfs before using vmware converter because I tred to use convert.exe but cannot because Volum(s) OS (c:\mount) use an unsupported file system and cannot be backed up.

I am open to suggestions.

Untick c:\mount, this is probably a Setup Partition, and will not be required on the virtual machine, you only need your NTFS OS partition.

Hi,

please find result from un-checking Volum(s) OS (c:\mount). Thanks in advance.

Select Yes, and later you will need to boot from a Partition Manager, and update the Partition to Active.

Hi,

How do I boot from a Partition Manager, and update the Partition to Active after the server has been converted.

Thanks in advance.

Keep in mind that with windows 2008 R2 there is a boot partition which is 100MB, you will need this.  Any other partitions you can ignore in the P2V process.  This is most likely a Dell/HP, etc.. utility partition for the hardware which will not be needed in a virtual environment
